The Caravan Campaign Tour of the Movement for Change has seen a surge of endorsements from chiefs across the Eastern Region, with many traditional rulers openly expressing confidence in Alan Kyerematen as the leader capable of rescuing Ghana from its current economic challenges. Led by Mrs. Kyerematen, the campaign team has gained significant support from key figures, reflecting the widespread appeal of Alan Kyerematen’s Great Transformational Plan (GTP).
During a visit to the Akim Oda Palace, Nana Kudre Eseidu, the Nifahene of Kotoku, joined the growing number of chiefs backing Alan Kyerematen’s presidential bid. He emphasized Alan Kyerematen’s ability to alleviate the suffering of Ghanaians, given his proven leadership.
“We know that Alan has the ability, and he has demonstrated it in the past. If given the opportunity, he can alleviate the pain and plight of Ghanaians,” Nana Kudre stated. He also called for peaceful elections, urging political parties to focus on policies over violence.
At the Akyem Kotoku Palace, Nana Obrempong Kwesi Amoh Kyiritwie, the Gaasehene, warmly welcomed the Movement for Change team and endorsed Alan Kyerematen’s candidacy. The chief commended the depth of the GTP, which includes making chiefs co-trustees of the nation’s resources and reinstating their role in governance. He expressed confidence in Mr. Kyerematen’s leadership and urged the campaign to communicate his policies effectively to the electorate.
Speaking on behalf of the Caravan team, Mr. George Streeter, Eastern Regional Coordinator, emphasized Alan Kyerematen’s vision of restoring the chieftaincy institution to a central role in governance, stating, “Under the Great Transformational Plan, chiefs will serve as co-trustees of the nation’s lands and resources. This reflects Mr. Kyerematen’s deep respect for traditional authorities and his desire to create a government that partners with chiefs to enhance governance.” Streeter also stressed that the GTP would move away from the traditional manifestos, which have failed to significantly transform the country.
In Donkorkrom, Nana Daseebre Akwamah Boateng Tona II, Chief of Afram Place, echoed the call for change, specifically urging support for mechanized farming to boost agricultural productivity in his community. He stressed that Afram Place, with its vast tracts of land, has the potential to feed the nation if given the necessary resources. In response, Streeter assured the chief that Alan Kyerematen’s Agricultural Revolution initiative under the GTP would address these concerns, stating, “With the right investment and support, Afram Place will be able to feed the entire nation.”
Chiefs across the Eastern Region, including those from Prasu Kuma, Afusu, and Asuom, have emphasized the pressing need to combat illegal mining (galamsey). Nana Akrasi Sarpong II of Agona Bosome Palace urged Alan Kyerematen’s team to prioritize this issue, as local rivers continue to suffer from the devastating effects of unregulated mining. He highlighted the River Kosiko as one of the worst affected and hoped for swift action under Alan Kyerematen’s leadership.
Mrs. Kyerematen, addressing the chiefs, assured them that under her husband’s leadership, sustainable practices would be introduced to restore polluted water bodies, and mining activities would be better regulated in collaboration with traditional leaders. She reiterated Alan Kyerematen’s commitment to restoring the role of chiefs in governance and addressing environmental concerns. “Alan Kyerematen’s Great Transformational Plan will prioritize cleaning up our polluted rivers and ensure that chiefs are consulted in all matters of land and natural resource management,” Mrs. Kyerematen remarked.
The support from Eastern Region chiefs underlines the growing momentum behind Alan Kyerematen’s campaign. Chiefs have praised his decision to form the Movement for Change, seeing it as a much-needed alternative to the existing political establishment. Many believe that his departure from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was timely, signaling the possibility of real change.
