Presidential candidate of the major opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has posed five key questions on the country’s economy to the flagbearer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to answer.
Speaking during a campaign rally at Tatali in the Tatali-Sanguli constituency as part of his tour of the Northern Region, the former president challenged the vice president to respond to the questions instead of the 170 he posed to late former Vice President, Paa Kwasi Amissah-Arthur in 2016.
He stated, “He used to give lectures every month about how to manage the economy. He posted 170 questions for my Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur to answer, but he should go and answer just 3 of the questions”.
He further questioned, “Why is the exchange rate GHC17 to a dollar? Why has Ghana’s debt risen from $120 billion to $767 billion in eight years? Why has inflation risen to 54% under his administration for eight years? Why did you borrow GHC42 billion from the Bank of Ghana? Why has he run away from economy to digitalization?
“Bawumia can not talk about the economy because he knows nothing about economy. He opens his mouth to talk about digitalization. Why not the economy?” Mahama reiterated.
He concluded, “We don’t need 170 questions. If he wants, he can answer them himself, but he should come and explain to Ghanaians why we are where we are now”.
