Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew, Gideon Mensah, Alidu Seidu, and Abdul Fatawu Issahaku have all been ruled out of the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Niger due to injuries.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) announced in a statement that Gideon Mensah and Alidu Seidu, who had completed late fitness tests prior to the Angola encounter, were declared unfit following post-match medical assessment .
Abdul Fatawu Issahaku and Jordan Ayew were both injured during the Angola game; Issahaku was substituted out in the first half, and Ayew’s MRI revealed serious knee problems.
Meanwhile, Ayew and Issahaku are set to return to their respective clubs for rehabilitation after consultations with Dr. Prince Pambo and Leicester City’s medical team.
Ghana’s hopes for AFCON 2025 qualification were dashed after a 1-1 draw against Angola on Friday.
However, the result leaves the Black Stars fourth in Group F with just three points after five games, eliminating their chances of progressing.
Black Stars will miss the 2025 AFCON tournament for the first time in 21 years, Meanwhile, the team will hold their final training session on Sunday at the Accra Sports Stadium.
