Ghanaian players abroad continued their fine form for their clubs despite criticism of their poor displays for the national team.

Bournemouth striker Antoine Semenyo scored a brilliant goal for the Cherries against champions Man City when he received a cross in the box after excellent work from Milos Kerkez. Bournemouth went on to win the game 2-1, handing Man City their first defeat in 32 Premier League games.

Jordan Ayew, who started Leicester’s away game at Ipswich on the bench, came on in the 86th minute to secure a point for Leicester after a brilliant give-and-go with Jamie Vardy. Abdul Fatawu Issahaku played the full match for the Foxes.

Black Stars captain Thomas Partey started at right-back for Arsenal as they lost 1-0 to Newcastle. Tariq Lamptey was an unused substitute for Brighton in their 2-1 defeat to Liverpool.

Kamaldeen Sulemana was absent from Southampton’s matchday squad as they beat Everton 1-0, while Mohammed Kudus, serving a 3-match ban, could only watch from the stands as West Ham were beaten by Nottingham Forest 3-0.

In La Liga, Inaki Williams played the full 90 minutes and was named Man of the Match in Athletic Club’s 1-1 draw with Real Betis.

In France, former Black Stars captain Andre Ayew played 90 minutes and won a penalty for his side Le Havre as they beat Montpellier 1-0. Gideon Mensah and Elisha Owusu both started for Auxerre as they beat Alidu Seidu’s Rennes 4-0. Alidu Seidu, serving a card suspension, was absent from the game.

In Serie A, Ibrahim Osman was an unused substitute for Atalanta as they beat Napoli.

In the Swiss Super League, goalkeeper Ati Zigi conceded a 69th-minute penalty in St. Gallen’s 1-1 draw with FC Sion.

In the Dutch league, second-half substitute Ibrahim Osman scored a crucial 82nd-minute goal for Feyenoord as they beat AZ Alkmaar 3-2. Dutch players Jayden Owusu-Oduro and Ernest Opoku, who are eligible for Ghana, both played 90 minutes for AZ in that game.

In Turkey, defender Jerome Opoku scored a goal for Basaksehir, though they lost 3-2 to Konyaspor. Attacker Emmanuel Boateng was on the bench for Konyaspor.

In the MLS playoffs, Joseph Paintsil scored in the 45th minute for LA Galaxy as they beat the Colorado Rapids 4-1. Teenage midfielder Ronald Donkor came on in the 66th minute for the New York Red Bulls in their 2-2 draw with the Columbus Crew. Striker Yaw Yeboah was an unused substitute for Columbus Crew.
