Three individuals have been charged with conspiracy to undertake mining operations without a license in connection with the Aisha Huang case.
The charges are the result of investigations that was started on September 14, 2022, in response to intelligence from the Ministry of National Security. According to reports, the first and second accused were engaged in illegal mining operations popularly known as galamsey.
The accused were then taken into custody by police from their home at Paraku Estates in Kumasi for further investigation.
The first accused, Li Wei Guo, is accused of making false representations in order to obtain a work permit in violation of Section 52(1)(e) of the Immigration Act of 2000 (Act 573).
Under Section 52(1)(e) of the Immigration Act, 2000 (Act 573), the second accused, Shi Mei Zhi and the third accused, Nana Kwame Opoku are also accused of making false representations in order to obtain residency permits.
Kwame Opoku is further charged with violating Section 99(5)(b) of the Minerals and Mining Act, 2006 (Act 703), as amended, by enabling non-Ghanaians to engage in illicit mining.
