The Ministry of Sports and Recreation has inaugurated a committee to investigate the death of Nigerian boxer Gabriel Oluwasegun Olanrewaju, who died after collapsing in a boxing bout at the Bukom Boxing Arena on the 29th of March.
The inauguration ceremony held at the Ministry of Sports and Recreation will see 7 members mandated to investigate and determine the circumstances that led to the death of the boxer and determine whether the promoters and authorities in both Ghana and Nigeria followed due procedure for the fight to happen.
Also, the committee is expected to recommend technical and medical changes that need to be made to avert such occurrences in the future.
The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, who inaugurated the committee, promised the committee of government’s support and asked the team to do diligent work.
He added that the death of the boxer is not an incident that should be swept under the carpet, thus the essence of the committee.
