I’m sorry – Marwako Lebanese supervisor

The Lebanese Supervisor at Marwarko, Jihad Chaaban, who allegedly splashed pepper onto the face of a Ghanaian worker Evelyn Boakye has apologised to his subordinate for his actions.

He said he regrets the incident since it has sullied the reputation of the lady in question and the company.

“I wish very sincerely to personally apologise to you for the incident on the night of 26 February 2017 at our Ablenkpe place of work,” Mr. Chaaban said in an apology letter dated March 5, 2017.

He added: “True to God, all I sought to do was to point you to something I found wrong. I admit I was angry a bit at the moment and saw you panic and accidentally resulting in the pepper splashing onto your face.”

A very remorseful Chaaban also used the apology letter to Boakye to deny rumours that the transport money he gave her as transport fare to the clinic on the night of the incident was to keep mum over the issue.

“Please don’t feel I have any hatred for you because you got the police to arrest me and I have to face prosecution and disciplinary proceedings at the same time. I also regret that you may have felt the transport money I gave you was intended to stop you from taking any action. I take my suspension in good faith because of what happened, which has not only hurt you but also brought such embarrassment to the company we both gave our best to give it the excellent reputation it enjoys.

“Once again, without prejudice, I very sincerely regret the incident and apologise to you,” he pleaded.

Marwako condemns incident

Meanwhile, the management of Marwako Fast food says it has suspended its Abelenkpe branch supervisor Jihad Thaabn over the abuse he inflicted on a Ghanaian worker at the company.

The food company says it regrets the incident and will work with the Police to ensure that meaningful conclusion is arrived in the matter.

The suspended supervisor reportedly dipped the face of the Ghanaian worker in blended pepper over claim that she delayed with her responsibilities.

Narrating her ordeal, the victim told the Daily Graphic that although she had been employed to work in the Rice Department, she was occasionally asked to help in other departments where more hands were needed, however, on Sunday, February 26, 2017, she was asked to help in the Full Chicken Department, where she was instructed to blend fresh pepper for the seasoning of the chicken.

After blending the first set, Evelyn, realising that the sound of the blender was not normal, decided to find out what the problem could be by turning off the start knob.

Three other employees who were present as their colleague was being maltreated were said to have looked on helplessly due to threats from the supervisor to dismiss anyone who came close.

In a statement signed by its chief executive officer, who is a Ghanaian, Saturday, Mawarko said it is deeply worried over the matter and assured its workers of absolute support and protection.
“The management of Marwako Fast Foods deeply regrets the alleged incident of assault at its Abelenkpe branch on Sunday February 26, 2017.

“The branch supervisor at the centre of the unfortunate development has since been suspended, without prejudice, pending investigations and disciplinary sanctions over the alleged act.

“Management assures its clients and the general public that it does not and will never condone mistreatment of its workers and therefore condemns in no uncertain terms the alleged assault,” portions of the statement said.
