A 30-year-old man who is allegedly behind the false terrorist attack on the Accra Mall is in the grips of the Ghana Police.
The scaremonger on September 24, 2017 circulated on various social media platforms that the Mall is under attack, causing fear and panic in the capital, Accra.
The police in a statement said the alarmist was arrested in the Ashanti region following investigations by the Criminal Investigations Department.
“The suspect was arrested in his hideout at Offinso in the Ashanti Region and is currently in custody assisting Police in investigations,” the Director-General in charge of Public Affairs ACP David Eklu announced in the statement.
The law enforcement agency has warned the public to desist from “the use of prank and also assure all that the Police have the capacity to fish out persons who circulate false news on social media and other platforms in relation to issues that can have national security implications.”
