J Initiative with the support of partners ahead of Safer Internet Day 2018 has taken the celebration to the door steps of Members of Parliament where the group together with the MP for La Dadekotopon constituency and the Deputy minister for Communications held an assembly with about 2,500 students in some schools in Accra.

“Achieving a better Internet as the theme for this year states, begins with you and resonates well with the step taken by the Member of Parliament and it’s worth emulating by others. It is everybody’s responsibility to ensure that the right content is created, people connect with others appropriately and people are mindful of what they share about themselves and other people on the Internet. It is only by such careful steps that the Internet could be a better place for all,” Mr. Vincent Sowah Odotei said.

He added: “Events are taking place in all the 10 regions and we encourage opinion leaders, policy makers, teachers, parents, and children to take part in the discussions in the regions.”

A dossier, this time in the form of signatures were built and presented on behalf of the children and young people of Ghana to the MP to be passed on to Parliament for the protection of children and young people .
Meanwhile, J Initiative and SIDGhana partners are pleased to announce that Safer Internet Day 2018 (#SID2018) will be celebrated in Ghana on Tuesday 6th February 2018.

The celebration this year themed “Create, Connect and Share Respect: A better Internet Starts with you” will be marked by community durbars in all the 10 regions of the Republic of Ghana with Protection campaigns, media discussions and a Public Dialogue.

“We have celebrated the day in the past 3 years and this year being 4th and we are excited about the steady progress we have chalked from one regional celebration to 5 regions and now to the whole country. It only confirms SIDGhana partners resolve and commitment to create the much needed awareness on Internet safety for all.”

SIDGhana partners join the growing global effort among nonprofits, industry, academic institutions, government entities, municipalities and individuals to raise awareness in all settings on the need to practice cyber hygiene.
