A former National Security Coordinator and Chief of Defence Staff, Brigadier General (Rtd) Joseph Nunoo-Mensah has called for a national reawakening in the fight against corruption.
Nunoo-Mensah’s call comes on the back of president Akufo-Addo’s pledge to win the fight against corruption which he said is “denying our capacity to develop.”
Addressing the Ghanaian community in the United Kingdom Friday June 16, 2017, president Akufo-Addo thus pledged to win the fight against the menace.
According to him, the fight against corruption is about “ourselves” and that to the extent that “God gives me health and strength, I am going to do my best to make sure that the fight against corruption is won.”
Reacting to the President’s comments Monday June 19, 2017 on Morning Starr, Nunoo-Mensah said ruthless actions need to be seen “if we want to stop corruption.”
Describing the current scourge as troubling, he told Morning Starr host Francis Abban that: “As an 80-year-old man and I look back at 80 years of my life and see Ghana today I worry. I don’t see anything going the right way.”
He added: “There is the need for a national reawakening and it should come from the top. The president, ministers they should wake up and get things done.”
