The Minority in Parliament has accused the Akufo-Addo led administration of wasting revenue from the petroleum sector on the free SHS policy and on goods and services.
According to the NDC MPs, government has neglected capital investments even though the Petroleum Revenue Management Act requires 70% of oil revenue to be used for infrastructural projects.
Speaking in Parliament after the adoption of the annual report on the petroleum Funds for 2017, Minority spokesperson on Finance, Casiel Ato Forson charged government to realign its allocations to ensure the country benefits from the oil discovery.
Addressing the media after proceedings, the former deputy finance Minister threatened to head to court over the matter.
“…The petroleum management Revenue Act stipulates that 70% of the petroleum fund should go the annual budget Funding amount and 70% of that amount should be dedicated toward Infrastructure development and the remaining 30% should be used in the certain priority areas for goods and services. That is what is in the law.”
But in a sharp rebuttal, deputy finance Minister Kwaku Kwarteng refuted the claim of the minority. According to him government is investing prudently while paying off arrears left by the Mahama administration
The deputy Finance Minister in an interview with Starr News’ parliamentary correspondent Ibrahim Alhassan, said government has not breached any law.
According to him government will continue to invest in future leaders through the free SHS program.
