Child Online Africa, a non-governmental organization, has donated some books to the Ghana Library Authority to help the drive towards empowering children to be safe while using the internet.
The NGO over the years has been at the forefront in the celebration of Safer Internet Day which falls on the February 5 every year.
The move to present the books to the Ghana Library Authority was part of events to celebrate this year’s Safer Internet Day.
The books presented to the Authority has a bar code with all the information; it is also available on the internet at Childonlineafrica.org/SIDAfrica.
Child Online Africa this year celebrated the day in 14 African countries including Ghana.
This year’s celebration was themed ‘Together for a better Internet’ and the books focused on developing ‘critical’ skills of Respect, Responsibility, Reasoning and Resilience (the 4Rs) required for navigating the online world.
Executive Director for Child Online Africa, Awo Aidam Amenyah observed that a nation needs well-informed future citizens who can successfully make use of the internet and therefore believes there’s no better place than the library to help pursue such course.
“We thought it wise to make some of these books available to the Ghana Library Authority for them to keep for children and some parents can also learn some one or two things from it,” she mentioned.
The Ag Chief Executive Officer of the GLA, Mr Hayford Siaw, who received the books commended Child Online Africa and promised to dispatch the books to all its centers across the country.
He added that the manual will go a long way to protect the many children who are always on the internet soliciting for information.
