Minister of state in charge of Tertiary education at the Presidency Professor Kwesi Yankah has called out politicians who have involved themselves in the ongoing scuffle at the University of Education-Winneba to distance themselves from the situation.

Speaking at a forum in Accra he said “there should be higher levels of discipline, members of government who are being over enthusiastic in the affairs of the University of Education Winneba should be advised. They should know there is a separation and the distance between being a government official or a legislator in one hand.”

He noted “of course you can display your enthusiasm and interest in the affairs of any university but there are limits. Over enthusiasm ought to be kept by members of government and other government related officials who are interested in the affair of the university.”

He cautioned that “the arm flexing ought to stop, the arm flexing ought to be halted as soon as possible, and indiscipline within the school ought to be contained as swiftly as possible. And I must say that in the not too distant future, if the situation is not resolved, the government will be compelled to come out with a statement where its own position is clearly articulated.

Students of the school embarked on a demonstration on campus Tuesday to press home their displeasure at happenings at the university. The new Vice Chancellor Rev. Prof. Afful-Broni  is reported to have dismissed some teachers who openly disagree with him and his management style and policies in running the school.
