A renowned obstetrician/ gyanaecologist Dr Patrick Koblah Quist has appealed to government to include breast cancer treatment in the National Health Insurance Scheme (N.H.I.S) .
Speaking at the Empire fm ‘Boobrisky breast screening exercise’ at Takoradi Technical University Park, the renowned Obstetrician gynaecologist hinted of how some cases have been discovered to require further examination;
“I am so happy how the men have turned up as it is not only meant for women..add to the announcement that men need to also come in droves…I will however advise that each person must put aside 10 cedis a month if you receive 100 cedis salary, as often when we ask people to undertake biopsy they say , they do not have money. As a Dr. I have seen about 3 cases that need further action and we have taken their contact numbers. I personally have seen that one cannot afford and if after a week she does not show up, i will personally call her to undertake what is required.
“We need to pass a hat round and see how we can sponsor them as it is useless examining them and let them go. Government must add it to insurance but sometimes i understand how it has not been added as it is very expensive since after examination, you need to do biopsy and it is expensive as one will either undergo surgery or chemotherapy and it is really expensive so we must put some money aside as it is not part of health insurance” ;
Some men and women who spoke to Empire fm e after their examination lauded the medical team for the detailed steps they took them through to do the examination.
