A lecturer at the Ghana Christian University College, Rev. John Kofi Avorgah says the President’s quest in building a National Cathedral will be useless because God has not sanctioned the construction of the Cathedral.
According to him, it’s apparent that President Akufo-Addo is just seeking to leave a legacy for his regime despite the concerns of Ghanaians.
His comment comes on the back of the allegations against persons leading the construction of the National Cathedral.
The National Cathedral Secretariat in a statement has responded to claims of conflict of interest and corruption on the part of Rev Kusi Boateng, Secretary to the Board of Trustees by North Tongu Member of Parliament (MP) Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
In a reaction to the claims by the lawmaker, the Secretariat revealed that payment made to JNS Talent Centre, which the MP linked to Rev Kusi Boateng, was a refund of a loan the company had given to the Secretariat.
Early on, Mr. Ablakwa claimed in a post on social media that Rev. Victor Kusi-Boateng appears to be using illegal means to divert funds from the National Cathedral Project to his pocket.
Commenting on the development on Starr Today with Joshua Kodjo Mensah Monday January 17, 2023 the Practical Theologian said: “They can go ahead to do it but God will not be in it and there are examples in the Bible. It is going to be an exercise in futility. If God is not in what you are doing at the end of the day what benefit do you get? For me the President just wants to leave a monument in his honor that’s all. Nothing else, nothing more.
“If you are doing something for God and God said He doesn’t want it, you don’t push it on Him. He will confuse you. If a child says mummy I want to use this knife and he insists what he gets is a cut. So God says I don’t want it and you are insisting that you are doing it for God, for what purpose,” he queried.
According to the Theologian, senior Ministers are quoting the Bible wrongly to support the building of the National Cathedral.
“So if you insist on doing things that God said you don’t do you will be compounded and be saying things that should not be said. I have heard others say very terrible mistakes just to defend the building of the Cathedral.”
