Hundreds of residents in Kade, the capital of Kwaebibirim municipality in Eastern region have benefited from free quality healthcare services delivered during a medical outreach program organized by a businessman/contractor and philanthropist, Patrick Asomaning, alias Pope.

The free health screening exercise brought together clinicians from Ridge Hospital in Accra and Kade to check blood pressure, blood glucose level, hypetitis B, HIV, and malaria cases among residents for free counseling and treatment.

They were also provided health education on preventive healthcare.

Most of the beneficiaries who turned out in their numbers were peasant farmers, traders and the aged suffering various ailments but failed to seek healthcare at health facilities due to financial difficulties.

The leader of the medical team, Dr. Frederick Denu said diabetes and malaria were prevalent among the people screened.

He advised residents to sleep in treated tidy their environment, sleep in treated mosquito nets and desist from using it for unprescribed activities.

Patrick Asomaning alias Pope who organized and funded the health screening exercise said it will be replicated in other communities in the municipality.

“We are not just doing it in Kade. This place is divided into five zones. We have the Kade Zone, Asuom Zone, Takyiman Zone, Abamu Zone, then the Otumi zone” He explained.

Pope who is native of Akyem Otumi in the Kwaebibirim municipality, was impressed with the massive turnout.

“Healthcare should be Paramount to every person .so I am so happy to see the aged to come all the way from the villages to come and look at their health because if don’t have time to check your health you will have time to die .That is what I believe in.so I am happy that the team came and then they’ve also turned out in their numbers to check their health to know what is actually worrying them and then the Doctors are there to diagnose and give prescription as to what drug is deem fit for the person”.

He stated that the  2021 population and housing census puts the population in the municipality at 121,698 with 60,110 males and 61,588 females which majority are farmers with palm oil and cocoa as mainstay which require that they stay healthy to work to make a living.

“The community that we find ourselves is a farming community and most people from Monday to Saturday mostly go to the farm they don’t have time to go the hospital to check what is actually wrong with them. So he/she is there nothing happened then the person passes away. But may be the person might have condition like blood pressure which is silent killer”.

He appealed to government to pay attention to the municipality to improve basic social amenities to enhance quality of living standards of the people.

“Looking at this area, our roads are bad our health facilities are bad .I wish you can go to the hospital and take coverage of the hospital which serves thousands of people .The Kwaebibirim municipality is so big but the standard of hospital here is bad. I think government should consider to improve upon it because it serves so many communities. It needs a facelift. We are pleading to government the 1D1F we are expecting ours, agenda 111 hospitals we are pleading to authorities consider Kade as well” .Pope pleaded.

Highlife musician Nana Kwasi Aryeh with stage name Paa Kwasi was present to support the exercise.
