Former President John Mahama has called on President Akufo-Addo to set good examples for public office holders.
This follows an Accra Circuit Court hearing that huge sums of money and other items of the Minister for Sanitation, Cecilia Abena Dapaah and her husband, Daniel Osei Kuffour have been stolen from their Abelemkpe home.
Prosecution also noted that the incident happened between July and October last year.
According to The Chronicle newspaper reports, the two house helpers are Patience Botwe, 18, and Sarah Agyei, 30.
The two who are facing charges before the court are facing one count of conspiracy to commit a crime and five counts of stealing, involving amounts of US$1 million, €300,000, and millions of Ghana Cedis.
Commenting on the development, former President Mahama described the report as “scandalous.”
“$1m + €300k and millions of GHS in a Ghanaian Minister’s home? Scandalous!!
Even if genuinely acquired, why keep millions of hard currency at home? Will @NAkufoAddo ever set a good example for public office holders in his administration?” Mr. Mahama stated.
Meanwhile, private legal practitioner, Kwame Jantuah has asked State investigative bodies to probe source of Sanitation Minister, Cecilia Dapaah and husband Daniel Osei Kuffuor’s stolen $1million and thousands of Euros.
“If we are able to establish what work he (husband of Minister) does and that work earns him this kind of money then the major thing there will be taxes. Has he evaded taxes?
“If it can be proven that this money is not the Minister’s own and she didn’t gain it unscrupulously and the money is genuine where her husband has worked and got that money, then it needs to be proven. What I see there, nobody can hold anybody for keeping money in their house. It is the tax element,” Lawyer Jantuah said on the Weekly Review segment on Morning Starr on Starr FM Friday.
