Commissioner of Police (CoP), George Alex Mensah at the center of a plot to get Dr. George Akuffo Dampare removed as Inspector General of Police (IGP) has accused former Northern Regional Chairman of NPP Bugri Naabu of tampering with the leaked audio tape to remove portions incriminating to him.
Appearing before the Parliamentary seven Special Committee probing the tape for the second time, CoP Mensah failed to point from the transcript handed to him on Wednesday portions attributed to him that he did not utter.
“There are a lot of edited ones and I will want to cite examples. In the audio when I was speaking to Bugri Naabu somebody came in and he said “ah Asare you’ve kept so long and kept me waiting, you are now coming.” This portion came twice in the audio, an audio which was supposed to follow naturally. But this portion came twice in the audio.
“So how can an audio which was being recorded and nothing has touched it. The person just came in once and that one came in twice. As if the person came in and went back and came again,” CoP Mensah narrated.
Earlier there were exchanges between Chairman of the Committee, Samuel Atta Akyea and his Vice James Agalga over request for an in-camera hearing.
While the Chairman argued strongly for issues related to the administration of the Ghana police to be heard behind closed doors, the vice wanted some questions answered in the open for the benefit of the public who might have heard the leaked audio.
