Christmas came early for the blind community in the Ashanti Region, AS the Calvary Charismatic Centre donated nonperishable food items to the leadership of the Ghana Blinds Union
The kind gesture has become an annual ritual at the Ayigya Premises of the Church which has demonstrated on countless occasions, its priority for inclusion and care for the vulnerable.
The Christmas Donations which coincided with the churches end of year general clean up exercise, serves a cardinal purpose supporting the blind celebrate Christmas without feeling left out.
Leadership of the blind union which will be doing the distribution took delivery of bags of rice, cooking oil, canned tomatoes among other food items.
Message of Giving
Speaking on behalf of the elders and leadership of C.C.C., Resident Pastor Rev Joshua Obeng encouraged Christians to share in the message of giving that the season projects.
“The blind union is a part of our society and CCC wants to show that we love them. The message behind Christmas is a gift from God to the world in Christ. In that, we must also emulate by giving to one another because giving is also an expression of love,” he commended.
Rev Joshua Obeng challenged the blind community to be resolute and self-motivated even in the face of the daunting hurdles of disability.
The church is noted for annually donating hundreds of white canes at great cost, to support the thousands who do not have the mobility tool to move about freely.
GBU Gratitude
Expressing gratitude, Ashanti Regional President of the Ghana Blind Union Abdul Bassit Hamidan described as disturbing, the extent of need felt by the Blind Community during festivities like Christmas.
“Some members are needy and vulnerable when it comes to such festivities, they depend on people’s donations to celebrate. CCC has taken it upon themselves to be giving to the blind without us calling them to do so. We appreciate what they have done and pray that other churches can do same,” he stated.
Kumasi Metro President of the Blind Union Rita Agyemang Yeboah called on the public to look beyond their walls as they plan activities towards Christmas celebrations.
“Christmas should not only be about what you do for your family or close friends. God will bless anyone who reaches out to the person with disability, the homeless and the down trodden,” she advised.
Celebrating Wisely
Resident Pastor Rev. Joshua Obeng urged the public to exercise caution and circumspection to avoid the excesses recorded during the Christmas period.
Speaking to Ultimate News’ Ivan Heathcote – Fumador, he observed, “Some celebrate without being mindful.
“My word of caution is, celebrate but make sure you use knowledge and wisdom in whatever you are doing,” he noted.
He further challenged Christians to esteem the needs of others above their own as demanded of the faith in all decisions they take within the festive season.
The church has slated 24th December for Thanksgiving Service, 25th December for a Christmas Service and an anxiously anticipated 31st December watchnight service which headlines all such crossover services in the Ashanti Region.
