Parliament has strongly refuted claims circulating in a viral social media video suggesting that the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has been invited to negotiate with the President regarding a recent parliamentary decision.

In a statement released today, Parliament clarified that the video in question is being falsely presented. The footage, recorded on 4th July 2024, shows Speaker Bagbin leading a delegation to present the maiden Democracy Cup to the President. However, the video is being wrongly labeled to suggest a connection to the Speaker’s remarks on 17th October 2024, following a call by the Minority Leader to declare four Members of Parliament’s seats vacant.

Parliament categorically dismissed the insinuation, calling the effort to twist facts “disingenuous” and harmful to the Speaker’s integrity. The public has been urged to disregard the video and any associated rumors, with Parliament calling it an “unfortunate attempt to mislead.”

The statement, signed by Dr. Lawrence Kwarteng-Ashia, Deputy Director of Media Relations, underscores that no such meeting or negotiation has taken place, and stresses that any narrative suggesting otherwise should be treated with contempt.
