The New Patriotic Party National Youth Organiser, Salam Mustapha has highlighted the key difference between John Dramani Mahama and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s policies on poultry farming.

The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama accused Dr Bawumia, the flag bearer of the NPP of stealing his agricultural policy on poultry farming.

Speaking on Starr Today with Tutuwa Danso, Salam Mustapha said Mahama is patronizing young people with ‘nkoko nkitinkiti’ rather than creating real job opportunities for youth employment in the agricultural sector.

“The issue of unemployment goes beyond patronage. You cannot patronize people. Look, I see desperate young people, healthy, able-bodied, young men and women all the time wanting survival and looking for jobs. And the last thing we in the political space should do is to patronize the matter. Because it’s a serious existential matter. Okay. That is why I place a lot of premium on it”, he said.

“So, it is not telling people that, you get a small hen coop we will give you some small number of chickens for you to go and rear. When they lay eggs, you sell, and when you finish selling the eggs, you sell the chicken themselves, and now you’re back to square one. No”, he added.

He further stated that Bawumia’s policy on poultry farming focuses on developing large-scale and technology-based farming businesses that can offer young people long-term employment and skills development.

“Poultry farming is quite lucrative. So, in wanting to do commercial poultry farming, you have to get a lot of resources and support. It’s not, you know, ‘Nkoko nkiti nkiti’ at all, and that is the difference between us and him, which we are talking of a mechanized poultry farming system.”
