A total of 1,943 candidates are sitting for this year’s BECE in the Asuogyaman District in Eastern region
The exams began with a special parades at various examination centers to motivate the candidates and remind them of the rules and regulations of the examination.
District Director of Education, Miss Augustina Adwoa Owusu, expressed confidence in the candidates stating that the directorate is targeting at least 68% pass rate this year

“In all they are going to give us about 68% pass rate to improve upon last year’s performance so for us we are sure and believe in our candidates. We believe in the preparation and we hope that most of them will come out with flying colours” District Director of Education said.

Member of Parliament for Asuogyaman also the Deputy Finance Minister, Hon. Thomas Ampem Nyarko, also addressed the candidates — advising them to desist from examination malpractices and encouraging them to uphold integrity.
“Challenge yourselves that if you make a single digit in this examination as soon as you are posted to any of the secondary schools you and your parents will see the the Education director and my special aide we will have ceremony then we will present all the items that will be on your prospectus so that your parents do not have to worry about getting you what you need to secondary schools” The MP said.
He announced the resumption of free lunch programme for all BECE candidates during the examination period.

This initiative by the MP, started years ago was suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic after government took over feeding of candidates.
This year, all 1,943 candidates from both public and private schools will be served a hot meal daily to ensure no student writes on an empty stomach.
On the first day of the exams, the candidates were served jollof rice with chicken.
“Every year, there were some students who will come and write the exams on empty stomach. So I decided that if I have the opportunity to feed a few of you will do that and so for the next five days that you are going to write the exams I will provide you free lunch”.
Hon. Thomas Ampem Nyarko also assured to purchase all prospectus items for any candidate who secures single digit grade.
Some candidates who spoke to Starr News expressed gratitude for the initiative and shared high hopes of passing the exams.
