Cybersecurity expert, Dr Kofi Annan, has cautioned the public to be mindful of their digital footprint, stressing the importance of protecting personal information shared online.
His warning follows the Interior Ministry’s issuance of arrest warrants for four suspects allegedly involved in romance scams and online fraud. The suspects; Isaac Oduro Boateng, Inusah Ahmed, Derrick Van Yeboah, and Patrick Kwame Asare; are believed to be hiding in Ghana.
Speaking to Starr News, Dr Annan underscored the growing threat of cybercrime and urged individuals to exercise greater caution when using social media.
“If you expose too much of yourself on social media, it becomes easier for cybercriminals to gather personal information and use it to target or attack you,” he said.

“That’s why we advise people to limit how much personal detail they share online. While some users post for commercial reasons, we strongly recommend not sharing real-time photos or travel updates. For safety, wait until after your trip to post and share those memories.”
Dr Annan emphasised that while digital platforms have become powerful tools for connection and promotion, users must be aware of the risks they pose when not used responsibly.
