Ghana’s Sports Minister, Kofi Iddie Adams, received Mexico’s Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Norma Ang, and Deputy Head of Mission, Fernando Alvarado Valenzuela, during a courtesy visit at the Ministry’s headquarters in Accra.

The discussion centered on strengthening sports diplomacy and exploring partnerships aimed at advancing youth development and building technical capacity across multiple sporting disciplines.

Ambassador Ang underscored the importance of sports as a bridge between Mexico and Ghana, reaffirming her country’s commitment to fostering partnerships in boxing, basketball, football, and other disciplines.

She outlined Mexico’s expertise in FIFA referee training, sports management, and talent development through university partnerships.

The delegation also suggested organizing a boxing photo exhibition honoring Mexican champions, alongside a film festival to highlight Mexico’s vibrant sporting heritage.

The Sports Minister warmly received the delegation, noting that sports—especially football and boxing—have historically served as a link between Ghana and Mexico. He described sports as a universal language that fosters mutual understanding and strengthens international goodwill.

The meeting was attended by notable figures in Ghanaian sports, including the Vice President of the Ghana Football Association, as well as the Presidents of the Ghana Boxing Federation, Baseball Federation, and Olympic Committee.

Hon. Kofi Adams commended Mexico’s role as a co-host of the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup with the United States and Canada, expressing optimism that Ghana’s Black Stars will qualify and make a strong impact on the world stage.

Discussions explored collaboration in:
Exchange programs for coaches, referees, and technical officials to build Ghana’s sports capacity, Promoting grassroots and women’s sports initiatives, Leveraging the Free Zones concept to attract investment in sports infrastructure, Encouraging sports tourism, with Ghana as a potential training hub for Mexican teams, Exploring special visa arrangements to ease fan travel during the 2026 World Cup.

The Minister expressed his commitment to establishing a dedicated working group to develop a comprehensive partnership framework with the Mexican Embassy. Both sides reaffirmed their resolve to strengthen relations through sports, cultural exchanges, and continued mutual cooperation.
