The Teacher Trainees association of Ghana has commended President, John Dramani Mahama for commitment in implementing the ‘No Fees Stress’ policy.

The policy which was officially launched on July 4, 2025 at Koforidua in the Eastern region is a flagship, equity-based initiative aimed at eliminating financial barriers to tertiary education in Ghana.

Under the programme, the state will cover the academic-related fees of all first-year students enrolled in public tertiary institutions starting from the 2025 academic year.

So far, academic user fees have been cleared for an initial 15,000 students under the policy with over 340, 000 applications validated.

According to the Teacher Trainees, they see the move as a strong sign by the John Mahama led government’s commitment to fair and Inclusive education in the country.

A statement signed by President of the Teacher Trainees association, Nanija Divine “TTAG acknowledges the education ministry under the leadership of Hon Haruna Iddrisu for his continued policy ingenuity. The association also highly commends Dr. Saajida Shiraz CEO of the student loan Trust Fund for her operational excellence, particularly in ensuring the immediate funding of the initiative and clearing legacy arrears”.

Of notable significance is the government’s firm assurance that payment of Teacher Trainees allowances for the first and second semester of the 2025/2026 academic year, shall resume shortly. This has restored confidence among Trainees, as the association looks forward to the prompt disbursement of the allowances”, they said.

The trainees further pledged its support towards the successful implementation of government policies in the education sector.
