Hannah Sarpong, wife of the late NDC National Vice Chairman, Samuel Sarpong, has delivered a heartbreaking tribute at the interdenominational state funeral for the eight victims of the August 6 helicopter crash.
With tears and heavy grief, Mrs. Sarpong described her husband as not just a political figure but a devoted partner, father, and pillar of strength who made their 37 years of marriage a journey of love, faith, and resilience.
She recalled his last phone call on the morning of the fatal trip, in which he told her he was embarking on “a return journey.”
Clinging to that final promise, she confessed: “I am still looking forward to welcoming you back home, my dear husband. Your departure news continues to cut through my head. It feels unreal, and I keep hoping you would walk back through the door.”*
Paying homage to his character, she described Samuel Sarpong as a man of wisdom, compassion, and devotion — not only to his family but to his country. “You made our home a place of peace, a candle of light, a shelter of happiness. You cared for us with such gracious love and led us with a divine heart,” she said.
Overwhelmed with emotion, she expressed the irreplaceable void his passing has left behind: “Your absence is a deep wound in my heart. Yet your love will forever comfort me. You ran a good race, my husband. May heaven’s doors open until we meet again. Rest, my love.”
The August 6 crash claimed eight lives, including Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Samuel Aboagye, Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed, and three military officers: Squadron Leader Peter Baafemi Anala, Flight Lieutenant Manaen Twum-Ampadu, and Flight Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
