Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has met with officials from the United States Embassy and the Canadian High Commission in Accra to discuss streamlined visa arrangements for Ghanaian football fans ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The discussions, held on Tuesday, October 21, were part of government efforts to ensure smooth travel for supporters following the Black Stars’ qualification for the global tournament, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The meeting brought together key stakeholders, including the Technical Advisor to the Minister for Youth and Sports, Betty Krosbi Mensah; President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and CAF Vice President, Kurt Okraku; as well as senior officials from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Sports.

Acting US Ambassador Rolf Olson led the American delegation, while Acting Canadian High Commissioner Dennis Roussel represented the Canadian side.
Talks centered on coordination between the host nations and Ghana to facilitate visa applications for fans, officials, and team personnel.
The parties also explored the possibility of special visa packages or fast-track arrangements outside the regular process to simplify travel logistics.
The meeting also welcomed the United States’ recent decision to lift single-entry visa restrictions for Ghanaians; a move that now allows multiple entries and enables fans to travel easily between the three host countries during the tournament.
According to the Ministry, a similar engagement has been planned with the Embassy of Mexico on Friday to finalize travel facilitation measures for Ghanaian supporters.
