The Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana (IEAG) has clarified its current position on the implementation of the Publican Artificial Intelligence (AI) System at Ghana’s ports, stating that it fully supports the rollout of the platform.
In a statement dated Thursday, April 9, 2026, the Association said recent claims suggesting it still opposes the system are “misleading, outdated, and do not reflect the Association’s present stance.”
The IEAG explained that earlier concerns raised in 2025 were based on issues around stakeholder consultation, data security, transparency, and system integration.
The Association noted that those concerns were subsequently addressed through engagements with government, the Ministry of Finance, and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), leading to improved understanding and refinements to the system’s implementation.
“As a result of these consultations and the good faith shown by government in responding to stakeholder concerns, the IEAG wishes to state unequivocally that it supports the Publican AI System, which has since been rolled out,” the statement said.
IEAG also acknowledged that there have been some operational challenges during implementation but described such issues as normal in major reforms.
“While it is acknowledged that the implementation phase has experienced some operational challenges… the Association recognizes the ongoing efforts by authorities to address these issues,” it added.
IEAG highlighted the expected benefits of the system, including improved revenue mobilisation, reduced leakages, and enhanced transparency at the ports.
It further cautioned against attempts to misrepresent its position using outdated publications.
