GHANET launches online HIV self-test platform to boost testing amid diagnosis gaps

New platform allows Ghanaians to privately request free HIV self-test kits online.

The Ghana HIV/AIDS Network (GHANET) has launched an online HIV self-testing platform to make HIV testing more accessible and support early diagnosis across Ghana.

The system, which went live today, October 1, 2026, allows users to privately request HIV self-test kits online. The kits are free, although a nominal delivery fee may apply depending on the user’s location.

The platform also provides information on HIV prevention, treatment, counselling and partner testing, while directing users to more than 700 Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) centres nationwide.

The initiative comes as Ghana continues to fall short of the UNAIDS 95-95-95 targets. According to 2025 data from the Ghana AIDS Commission cited by GHANET, Ghana achieved 70-81-92.

An estimated 337,435 people were living with HIV in 2025, with 101,292 reportedly unaware of their status.

GHANET President Ernest Amoabeng Ortsin urged Ghanaians to test regularly and know their status.

“We, therefore, encourage all and sundry to test and know their status, bearing in mind that early detection and initiation on treatment save lives,” he said.

GHANET also called for consistent supplies of HIV medicines and commodities and greater investment in newer prevention options, including Lenacapavir, Cabotegravir and the Dapivirine Vaginal Ring.

GHANET reported 13,951 new HIV infections and 12,051 AIDS-related deaths in 2025. Over the previous five years, Ghana recorded 80,766 new infections and 65,114 AIDS-related deaths.

The organisation said the self-testing platform forms part of efforts to strengthen the national HIV response and achieve “Zero New Infections, Zero Deaths, Zero Stigma” by 2030.
