Three suspected kidnappers have been arrested in connection with the abduction of Ayuba Sumiya Mawudu, alias Haruna, at Dobini Bunban near Yendi in the Northern Region.
The development was announced by the Ghana Police Service in a statement on X on Thursday, October 1, 2026.
According to the Police, the suspects – Mahumudu Abdulai, 32, Ganiu Sumaila, 32, and Abdulai Salam, 28 – were arrested on September 29 at different locations in Sang in the Mion District.
The Police said the victim was abducted on September 25 by four armed men who attacked him and his brother at their residence.
The suspects later contacted the victim’s family and demanded GH¢100,000 for his release.

The victim subsequently escaped from his captors and was assisted by some farmers in Sambu before being taken to a clinic for medical attention.
According to the Police, the victim told investigators that “he had been taken to an undisclosed location and kept under guard by armed men but he later managed to escape and was assisted to safety by some farmers in Sambu.”
The victim later identified all three suspects from their photographs.
“The victim subsequently identified all three arrested suspects from their photographs,” the Police stated.
Preliminary investigations have also linked the suspects to other robbery incidents in the area.
The Police said the three suspects remain in custody and are assisting with investigations, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining accomplices.
“The three suspects are currently in Police custody assisting investigations, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining accomplices and establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident,” the statement added.
The investigation is ongoing.
