Two people have been confirmed dead while five others sustained injuries following a fatal road crash that triggered a fire at Birimso Bridge on the Accra–Kumasi Highway (N6) in the Eastern Region.

The collision involved a fuel tanker, an STC bus with registration number GS-7050-22, a Mitsubishi Pick-Up (GE-8602-17), and a KIA Sorento (GT-8601-14).

According to the Eastern Regional Fire Command, the fuel tanker, the STC bus and the Mitsubishi Pick-Up were completely destroyed by the ensuing fire, while the KIA Sorento sustained extensive damage.

Firefighters from the Bunso Fire Station, led by Assistant Divisional Officer Grade I (ADOI) Samuel Doe, together with a team from the Suhum Municipal Fire Station led by ADOI Moses Quaye, responded swiftly to the scene to contain and extinguish the blaze.

Personnel from the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service in Kibi also assisted in managing the incident and directing traffic.

The Ghana National Fire Service said seven people, comprising two females and five males, were involved in the crash. Two of the victims died, while the remaining five sustained varying degrees of injury.

The fire was brought under control, with emergency personnel continuing mop-up operations to ensure the area is safe.

Victims were sent to Osiem and kibi government hospitals.

The cause of the crash is yet to be established, and investigations are underway.
