Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has cautioned the political class to be wary of recent youth uprisings on the African continent.
This comes days after the youth of Kenya poured out on the streets against the introduction of some taxes leading to the torching of Parliament, Tanzanians have followed suit.
The Kenyan riot left 5 Ghanaian MPs who had visited the parliament of that country stranded.
Addressing the development in a statement on the floor, Mr. Afenyo-Markin implored the political class to work together in taking proactive steps in addressing underlying causes of public discontent.
MP for Tamale South Haruna Iddrisu on his part charged the government to take steps to avoid a Kenya-like situation in Ghana.
MP for Abuakwa South Samuel Atta Akyea on his part argued no youth have the right to embark on a riot leading to destruction of properties like witnessed in Kenya regardless of their concerns
Bawku Central MP and immediate past spokesperson for Ghana’s delegation to ECOWAS Parliament Mahama Ayariga however argued the increasing levels of discontent on the continent is a threat that has left many governments falling
Western Regional Minister Kwabena Otchere Darko Mensah on his part charged MPs to lock themselves up in the chamber if need be and works out solutions for pacify the youth of the country to avoid such riots.
Odododiodio MP Nii Lante Vanderpuiye who was caught up in the riot in Kenya argued leaders in Africa seem to be playing with fire with an open display of impunity.
MP Manhyia South and Energy Minister Dr. Matthew Opuku Prempeh questioned why some Ghanaians seem to be wishing what happened in Kenya on Ghana arguing there is no excuse whatsoever for the action of the Gen-Z.
