Award-winning actress Nana Ama Mcbrown has entreated women especially students to desist from buying expensive fashionable materials such as Brazilian and Peruvian wigs, dresses, designer bags, watches and phones which do not add value to their lives.

Speaking during ‘Starr Woman Project’ at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi on Friday, she admonished young women to make good use of their monies by investing in profitable ventures.

The “Starr Woman Project” is an extension of ‘The Zone’ which seeks to equip young women entrepreneurs with the relevant knowledge, skill and motivation to achieve their fullest potential as entrepreneurs.

Nana Ama Mcbrown said it is needless for young girls who are dependent on their parents to buy expensive materials just to look beautiful when they could buy same materials at lower prices.

She further encouraged students and women to start business with their phones and stop engaging in fruitless activities such as Snap chat, WhatsApp, Instagram, Imo, and others.

“You don’t have to always depend on your parents for monies, what becomes of you if they die? you can start business with your mobile phones, you can do business after lectures, use the Brazilian or Peruvian money to start your own enterprise, what is the point in spending GHC1, 000-GHC1, 500 on wigs?, you could be venturing into hairdressing, blogging, dressmaking or even bead making by selling your products on online with your phones which will fetch you lots of money. Be serious with your studies and use social media to get money as well, there is nothing wrong combining studies with business,” she admonished.

The talented actress indicated that it takes determination and perseverance to break barriers in one’s life.

Nana Ama Mcbrown intimated that she worked hard to reach the status she is now.

‘You will go hungry if you don’t focus. Determination and courage will take you to places. Be ready to serve people with humility so that you will also be served in future,’ she advised.

She urged the students to desist from impressing people by leaving beyond their means.

A co-host of Starr drive, Anita Erskine, who is the face of the 2017 edition of the Starr Woman Project led the team to Kumasi.

The 2017 edition of the Starr Woman project was sponsored by Access Bank’s W Initiative (Inspiring, Connecting, and Empowering) and Marie Stopes Ghana.

Other Speakers include: African Broadcaster Anita Erskine, Ms Nancy popularly called Stlye Coach and Chief Executive Officer of ACE Consult Ltd Marilyn Owusu.

Host of Ultimate FM’s Brunch and Lunch Naa Klordey Odonkor hosted the programme.
