The Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG) and former Ghana Football Association President, Kwasi Nyantakyi, have launched the Prison Football Project at the Nsawam Medium Security Prison.
The initiative aims to nurture young football talents, revive dead football dreams, and provide opportunities for inmates to become coaches, referees, or football administrators.
According to Mr. Nyantakyi, “Regardless of their situation, they’re still part of society.” The PFAG donated footballs, jerseys, and sporting equipment to the prison, which was received by the Eastern Regional Commander and DIC of Nsawam Prisons, DDP Patrick Thomas Seidu.
Black Stars legends Samuel Osei Kuffuor, Tony Baffour, Maxwell Konadu, and John Mensah and others attended the launch and pledged their support to the initiative.
A football exhibition match between Block 2 and Block 3 inmates ended 2-0 in favor of Block 3, with U20 World Cup winner Emmanuel Agyeman Badu scoring a penalty in the game.
The Prison Football Project is a commendable initiative that can positively impact the lives of inmates and promote football development in Ghana.
