A Japanese Road Construction Firm, Contractors of Shimizu Dai Nippon Joint Ventures, working on National Trunk Road(N8) from Assin Fosu to Assin Praso in the Central Region has stopped work.
The move to suspend work was as a result of an attack on the Company by some irate workers of the firm over dismissal of some workers and unpaid three months salary.
Information gathered by EIB Central Regional Correspondent, Yaw Boagyan, revealed that the angry workers were showing solidarity with their colleague workers who were dismissed by the Company.
The angry workers carried out the alleged attack on the Company on Sunday afternoon around 2:30 PM.
The workers had earlier embarked on a sit-down strike for two working days before moving into the residence of the Japanese Contractors.
According to sources, the workers were alleged to have jumped the wall of the Japanese residence and forcibly broke into the room of one of the Contractors by name Gozwe and harassed him.
The Chairman of the Municipal Works Department of Assin Fosu, Mr. Eric Mensah when contacted explained that the workers suspect Gozwe is behind the dismissal of their colleague workers and their three months’ unpaid salary.
Meanwhile, District Police Commander of Assin Fosu, Chief Superintendent Cephas Arthur in an interview said the Police acting on a call swiftly moved in to bring sanity to the area.
He added that he requested for reinforcement from the Regional Police Headquarters to ensure maximum protection to the residence of the contractors adding that investigation has commenced into the incident.
Chief Superintendent also advised the workers to be law-abiding and use the appropriate medium to register their displeasure.
The attacked Japanese workers have since been sent to the hospital for treatment.
