The Cape Coast Technical University(CCTU) has inducted into office the first substantive Vice-Chancellor since its conversion from a polytechnic four years ago.

The Technical University which has had a chequered history with the suspension of its formal acting vice Chancellor Prof. Lawrence Atepor two years ago was later run by an Interim Management Committee(IMC) before finally getting a substantive vice-chancellor who has already been acting for the past 8 months.

The New Vice-Chancellor Rt. Rev. Ing. Prof. Joshua Danso Owusu Sekyere until his appointment was an academic staff of the University of Cape Coast having served in various capacities including heading the Engineering and agricultural faculties of the university.

The New Vice-Chancellor has pledged his commitment in transforming the Cape Coast Technical University into a model and globally competitive technical university.

The university ,he explained will place premium on renewable energy development which will help the country in dealing with its energy challenges while boosting the production capacity of industry and knowledge base of students.

”In view of the fact that the niche area for CCTU is Renewable Energy, we have set up a Renewable Energy Centre. It will host the Bachelor of Technology in Renewable Energy programme , and also provide services and training in Renewable Energy within and outside the University. We intend to, ultimately have a School of Renewable Energy , which will complement the assignment of this Centre”. he stated.

Prof. Jushua Owusu- Sekyere also pledged his commitment in fostering good relationship among the staff in order to have the right synergy to propel the technical university to higher heights.

In a related development , the university has held its 2nd Congregation as a Technical University for for 882 graduates who had completed their academic work.

The number is made up of 188 Bachelor of Technology graduates , 577 Higher National Diploma graduates and 117 Diploma graduates.

The Vice Chancellor Prof. Joshua Owusu-Sekyere urged the graduands to utilise their skills in contributing to the development of the country.

The Cape Coast Technical University has also introduced 11 new Bachelor of Technology programmes in Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Civil Engineering , Constriction Engineering ,Automation Engineering and Electrical and Electronic Engineering .

The rest of the Bachelor of Technology programmes are in Applied Sciences , Hospitality Management, Industrial Accounting and Finance ,Food and Post- Harvest Technology and Renewable Energy.

Prof. Joshua Owusu Sekyere urged the HND graduands as well as the general public to take advantage of such programmes as the technical university has the requisite staff to lead instruction leading to the acquisition of the relevant knowledge and skills that will help students contribute meaningfully in their respective fields.
