Management of the Bolgatanga regional hospital has cancelled its decision to introduce a cash and carry system for some services to National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) cardholders.
According to a memo to all units of the hospital, NHIS subscribers are to pay GH¢50 and in some cases extra GH¢20 for wound dressing and suturing.
However, Communications Director for National Health Insurance Authority Barima Sarpong told Starr News the medical director for the facility has since been made to withdraw the directive by the Director-General for the Ghana Health Service (GHS).
“I’ve seen another counter directive from the same quarters, the same medical director of the Bolgantaga Regional Hospital stating that they should stop charging people for minor dressing and staturing. So the earlier one you talked about doesn’t stand anymore,” he stated.
In a separate development, the authority has disclosed claims for January and February are ready to be disbursed to service providers.
“We have cleared 2016 claims, we have also cleared 2017 and within this week or next week we are going to pay the first two months of 2018,” said Mr Sarpong.
