As Ghana continues her fight against the Coronavirus pandemic, 2017 CIMG Rural Bank of the Year, Odotobri Rural Bank on Friday donated personal protective equipment (PPE) to the St. Peter’s Hospital at Jacobu in the Amansie Central District of the Ashanti region.
The items which included infrared thermometers, nose masks, hand sanitizers, gloves, disinfectants, liquid soap, tissue rolls and spirit (alcohol) were valued at Ghs20,000.
The donation was in line with Odotobri’s corporate social responsibility amid the Covid-19 era.
Ghana as at Saturday, April 18, 2020 had recorded 834 cases of Covid-19 nationwide.
Presenting the items, Board Chair for Odotobri Rural Bank, Mr. Benedict Boadi mentioned that the exercise was to support the work of health professionals in their preparation toward the pandemic; although the district had not recorded any case.
“We now have confirmed cases in Bekwai and Obuasi and we do not know when it will attack us over here, so we need to get prepared. This is why Odotobri has taken this initiative to present these items to the hospital in order to curb the spread or contain the disease.”
“Jacobu is our head office and this hospital, St. Peter’s, is the only major hospital we have in the district so we need to start from home and the donation is not going to end here, we shall extend it our various catchment areas”, he told Ultimate News.
Mr. Boadi also added that Odotobri had now, more than ever encouraged their customers to embrace Odotobri’s mobile and digital banking platforms in order to reduce the human to human interactions.
On his part, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Bank, Mr. Evans Aidoo revealed that the bank had developed a programme for frontline workers to enjoy the lowest interest rates as well as moratorium on their loan facilities from the bank.
“We’ve developed programmes for frontline workers; where we may even give moratorium for facilities they have taken. This means we’re going to extend their duration or give some holiday to loans they’ve taken. Besides that we’re also going to look at the interest rates on loans.”
St. Peter’s Hospital Administrator, Francis Banie Asenso who received the PPE expressed his outfit’s utmost gratitude to Odotobri Rural Bank in such a time.
Odotobri Rural Bank by this gesture becomes the first rural bank in the Ashanti region to show commitment to the coronavirus fight.
