The Majority members on Parliament’s Communications Committee have rejected calls for the resignation of Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, insisting the demands are without merit.
This follows a press conference by the Minority caucus on the committee accusing the Minister of wasting time and resources in his attempt to get DStv to cut its subscription prices by at least 30 percent.
But addressing the media on Friday, October 03, Tain MP and committee member, Sulemana Adama, dismissed the Minority’s stance as hypocritical.
“The call on Hon. Sam George to resign is unfounded,” he stressed. “For the records, a whole President put his presidency on the line to fight galamsey. He failed, but he did not resign. A Minister of State once said he was not thinking right when procuring vaccines, yet he did not resign.
The former Minister for Communication signed opaque bills like Smart Infraco and the rest, and she never resigned. Nobody called on her to resign.”
Mr. Adama argued that demanding the exit of a minister who has achieved notable milestones in just eight months was unfair, urging Ghanaians to disregard the calls and instead support him.
He further disclosed that Parliament’s Communications Committee has invited both MultiChoice Ghana and the ministry to a dialogue to resolve the standoff.
“The committee has instructed the secretariat to invite MultiChoice and the ministry together to dialogue on the way forward,” he added.
