This is not the first time such incident has occurred in the area. According to residents,  at least 3 children have drowned since 2016.

The acting District Director of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) in the area , Joseph Okai Gyan , told Starr News the Organization last year visited the community and noticed the danger the abandoned mining pits pose to residents particularly children in the area and sent reports to the appropriate authorities for reclamation which has not been done.
