The Old Students Association of Koforidua Secondary Technical School (SECTEC) has donated medical items worth Ghc15,000 to the Paediatric Ward of the Eastern Regional Hospital in Koforidua to improve quality healthcare delivery to sick children.

The items donated are 20 Pulse oximeters, 30 branded mattresses with bedsheets and pillowcases, 10 cartons of bleaches, toiletries among others.

Paediatric Nurse In -Charge of the Ward Bernice Oti-Dankese who received the items on behalf Management of the Hospital expressed gratitude to the Association.

“We are very grateful to you for the donation especially with regards to the Pulse Oximeters. It is very vital to our care of the Children, we need to check their Oxygen Saturation so having a number of them would really make our care better because we will have enough to work with ”

She said most of the mattresses at the ward were torn and worn out and were inadequate which management was working around the clock to replace it hence described as a timely intervention and a big relief donation by the Old Students Association also known as “Mmarima Mma-Abusuakese3”.

The In-Charge , however, appealed to the General Public and philanthropists to help the facility secure more resuscitation devices to save lives.

“We need resuscitation devices. Sometimes the child comes in in critical condition, needs some form of resuscitation, and though we have they are not enough and some of them are not in good shape ”

President of the Koforidua SECTEC Old Students Association, Scofray Nana Yaw Yeboah, said the donation is part of the Association’s Corporate Social Responsibility to Koforidua, the town which their great alma mater is located, to help improve quality healthcare delivery.

“This is the Hospital our students seek medical attention when the need be. So when we called upon management they made request especially for the oximeter, it was a deliberate request they made. Then also the fact that when the parents come, there aren’t enough mattresses so they just put their cloth on the bare floor. We know this should not be”.
