The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Effia-Kwesimintsim, Abdul Majeed Iddrisu Nassam, says his personal engagement with market queens helped ensure the peaceful relocation of traders from Jubilee Park to Apremado.
He said he personally led discussions with the market leaders to explain the reasons for the relocation, address their concerns and secure their cooperation, resulting in a smooth exercise without demonstrations.
Speaking on Morning Starr with Arafat Musah on Starr 103.5 FM on Monday, October 19, 2026, Mr Nassam said he made it a point to lead engagements himself to ensure that the reasons for decisions were properly communicated to those affected.
“I meet my market queens, we discuss. I tell them the reasons. If they give any diverse views about what we are going to do, I tell them my reasons why I think we have to take up what I am bringing on board, and in most cases, they accept what I…” he said.
According to the MCE, sustained dialogue with the traders helped prevent resistance and demonstrations during the relocation.
“That’s how come we had a seamless and no demonstrations, very free, very quiet movement of our market women from the Jubilee Park to Apremado. It was through engagement,” he said.
Mr Nassam stressed the importance of maintaining direct communication with the traders, adding that he intended to remain accessible to them even as the Assembly pursued its operations.
He explained that his decision to move to the new Assembly building, which is also close to the traders, was partly informed by the need to maintain that proximity and make engagement easier.
He said being closer to the market women would allow for more direct interaction and help sustain the relationship established during the relocation exercise.
