EIBElectionHub: Preliminary results indicate Bawumia’s resounding victory – Reg. Chairman

The Eastern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Jeff Konadu, has revealed that preliminary results received so far suggest a resounding victory for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the next flagbearer of the party.

Speaking to journalists in Koforidua, Jeff Konadu expressed his confidence in the fairness and transparency of the election and expressed hope that all candidates would accept the outcome.

He further commended the delegates and party executives for their orderly conduct during the elections, stating that there were no casualties or election-related violence, demonstrating party unity and a strong commitment to securing a resounding victory in the upcoming 2024 general elections.

Jeff Konadu urged all aspirants to accept the election results, collaborate with the winner, and work together to advance the party’s goals.

The Chairman made these remarks while addressing the media in the New Juaben South Constituency after Dr. Bawumia emerged victorious with 804 votes, followed by Kennedy Agyapong with 173 votes. Addai Nimo and Owusu Afriyie Akoto garnered 2 and 0 votes, respectively, in the New Juaben South Constituency.

Some delegates in New Juaben South were surprised at the votes obtained by Kennedy Agyapong .

They are however confident the Bawumi will win to lead the party to victory in 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.

The national delegates conference of the NPP is critical decision to determine the party’s flagbearer for the upcoming 2024 elections.

The flagbearer vote is keenly contested by four hopefuls: Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia ,Assin Central MP, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Former Food and Agriculture Minister, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, and Former Mampong MP, Francis Addai-Nimoh.

The chosen candidate will go head-to-head with ex-President John Dramani Mahama, who secured the endorsement of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) earlier this year.

It’s important to note that this election is taking place as the NPP enters its eighth year under the leadership of President Akufo-Addo.

The party aims to overcome historical trends, as no political party in Ghana has secured more than two consecutive terms under the Fourth Republic, spanning from 1992 to the present.

This flagbearer decision holds significant implications for the NPP’s chances in the 2024 general election, and the nation’s political landscape is set to witness an intense contest in the months to come.
