The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on its supporters and sympathisers to head to various collation centres across the country ahead of the final election declaration, citing concerns over alleged attempts to rig the election by the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Addressing the media, the party’s National Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, accused the NPP of orchestrating a plan to manipulate the electoral process.
Gyamfi’s comments came amid growing tension as the NDC continues to contest the legitimacy of certain election practices.
Gyamfi alleged that the ruling party had activated its “rigging machinery,” involving swapping pink sheets and snatching ballot boxes.
He urged NDC supporters to be vigilant and stand firm in protecting their votes. He emphasised the importance of ensuring a peaceful process and respecting the will of the people as expressed at the polls.
“This is where every Ghanaian or better still NDC supporters and sympathisers must join our polling agents and observers and the security teams to accompany the EC with the various ballot boxes and electoral materials to various EC constituency collation centres. Make your way to your constituency collation centre. if you are listening to me now, go to your constituency collation centre now…. Let’s ensure the process will be peaceful and the will of the people as expressed at the polls is what will count at the end of the day.”
The party previously raised concerns over an alleged incident in Kintampo South, where an Electoral Commission officer, Joseph Dery, was accused of issuing ballot papers without the photograph of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s presidential candidate.
The NDC claims this was part of a deliberate strategy to sway the outcome in favor of the NPP.
