The High Court in Accra has granted the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) a warrant to arrest the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, and to search and seize relevant documents.
The order, granted on September 30, 2026, follows an application by EOCO, which told the court it had exhausted all reasonable means to get the MP to appear voluntarily.
The court directed that the warrant be executed through the Speaker of Parliament.
EOCO said it is investigating alleged financial irregularities at SIC Life Savings and Loans, and had invited the MP twice in February as Senior Partner of Sarkodie Baffour Awuah & Partners, a firm engaged by SIC Life to recover about GH¢3.5 million invested with the defunct Equity Savings and Loans – a debt which had grown to about GH¢14 million with interest.
The Office says it fears relevant documents could be concealed, altered or destroyed.
The MP insisted he is not the subject of the probe, arguing the February 10 invitation was addressed to the Senior Partner of the firm and that after becoming an MP, he referred it to the Clerk to Parliament on February 18.
He said a representative of the firm cooperated with EOCO on March 4, March 18 and April 30, and filed a formal statement, with no further invitation until his attempted arrest at the High Court Complex on September 23.
EOCO, led by Executive Director Raymond Archer, disputes that account and says the attempted arrest, shortly after the MP appeared as counsel in the Ghana Jollof case, was lawful under Section 19 of Act 804 to secure his attendance.
The incident drew criticism from the Ghana Bar Association, which described it as unprofessional, while Majority Leader James Agalga argued any request concerning a sitting MP must go through the Speaker.
EOCO has not publicly detailed its specific allegations, but reports suggest investigators are probing a claimed 15 percent legal fee arrangement and alleged payments linked to SIC Life’s former management.
Those remain allegations under investigation. Another Minority MP is also believed to be a subject of the same probe.
