A planned demonstration by the families of the three Takoradi kidnapped girls has been called off, a spokesperson has said.
According to the families, the Police are being proactive now by providing them with liaison officers to update them on the case.
They have also given credit to NGO – Child Rights International – for playing an active role in putting the police on their toes hence the need to call off the planned demonstration for today, May 2.
“We are happy they have given us police officers we can be calling and their contact numbers. We have decided to hold on with the demonstration for now because Child Rights International is also working with the police on it,” Rebecca Quayson, a family spokesperson told Starr News.
Recently, president Akufo-Addo gave an assurance that he will deal with the menace of kidnapping in Ghana.
Speaking to members of the Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition (GACC) at the Jubilee House, the President said he will do everything within his power to ensure that the recent spate of kidnappings in the country is halted.
“We are all concerned about this phenomenon of kidnappings which we have not known. Our brothers and sisters in Nigeria have known it. But we have not known it in this country and we need to do something about it to make sure that it doesn’t become a feature of our society
“I am very, very determined on the issue and decisions are being taken as we seek what will be a clear manifestation of the determination I have to deal with this matter,” the president stated.
Meanwhile, a Takoradi District Magistrate Court has sentenced the Nigerian Kidnapper, Samuel Wills, who has refused to open up about the kidnapped girls, into 36 months imprisonment.
