As part of President John Dramani Mahama’s Upper East Resetting Ghana Tour, the President engaged the people of the region to brief them on the “Resetting Ghana Agenda.”

Addressing the people of the Upper East Region at Dazert pastures Bolgatanga, the Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga East and Attorney General of Ghana, Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, said the constitutional review process is progressing as planned and will soon be laid before Parliament for consideration.

“Once the report comes to Parliament, Honourable Members will receive it but cannot amend its contents. It will then be forwarded to the President for assent, after which the amendments will become law,” he explained.

On accountability, the Attorney General reminded Ghanaians of what the President said during the 2024 campaign: that corruption under the previous administration will not go uninvestigated.

“This is grounded in our Constitution which enjoins us to uphold the values of probity and moral accountability,” he stated.

To give effect to this, the President established the Operation Recover All Lot Assets Committee – ORAL. That committee has submitted a comprehensive report to my office. From that report, we have built 34 dockets.

“I can confirm that investigations into all 34 dockets have been completed and preliminary findings have been made. A lot of them are currently being prepared for filing in court,” Dr. Ayine said.

“I am also proud to say that under my leadership as Attorney General, and under President John Dramani Mahama, we have already filed five cases in court on corruption. This has never happened before in the history of Ghana. The cases we have filed so far are doing very well.”

He added that the President is keen to ensure that in investigations and prosecutions, no stone is left unturned. “But we will also not do anything that will look like persecution of political opponents,” he emphasized.

The Attorney General noted that government is not only relying on EOCO and the Office of the Special Prosecutor. “We are also doing forensic audits. That is why the Auditor General, on the directive of the President, engaged PWC to audit the National Cathedral project. That report has been submitted,” he said.

“The cases we have already filed in court are doing very well,” he added.

Dr. Ayine assured all Ghanaians that as far as the constitutional review and the accountability processes are concerned, “everything is under control. The President’s commitment is to fairness, justice, and the rule of law.”

He said the process is expected to strengthen Ghana’s democratic institutions once finalized.
