The Ghana Tech Lab has held incubation pitch day as part of the Ghana Startup Summit on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 for 25 Ghanaian youth across the country who have received training on digital technology.

The youth had six months training geared at equipping them with digital skills and how to set up their businesses in the technological space.

It was under the theme: “Digitizing Entrepreneurship For Job Creation Opportunities For The Ghanaian Youth”

The 25 youth at a national pitch day summit was expected to have three winners after their presentations to a panel drawn from the tech space namely Farouk Khailann the Chief Executive Officer for Premium Africa Holdings, Natasha Dadzie, Incubator Manager of Ashesi Venture Incubator and Wollie Wollimoh who is the head of Sales and Marketing at Best Western Premier-Accra.

The event started with a penal session on the topic, “Starts Investment in Ghana-The Journey so far and the way forward” with Andrew Ntumi, Executive Assistant at Legal Aid Commission of Ghana, David Nuertey Tetteh a Financial and Investment Advisor at Truzt Ventures Partners and Racheal Kotey an Analyst at Black Star Advisors.

In an interview with Starrfm.com.gh, the  National Incubation Program Lead, Mr. Dickson Kojo Anane indicated that the incubation is part of a base programme which has been designed by Ghana Tech Lab and has been running for the past six months.

He explained that the three winners will be going home with cash startups ranging between Ghc5,000 , Ghc3,000 and Ghc2000.

However, there are investors ready who will invest in the Start-up fund so that they will be able to scale them up in their business.

Mr. Anane said the Ghana Tech Lab program is structured in a way that after the summit the 25 youth will still come together as a team and will be groomed with their pitches.

“If you lose today it is not the end. They would be put together and a team would groom them because there are a lot of opportunities. We also have another option for them which is the acceleration. Meaning that in the post incubation phase we are trying to ground their businesses by giving them further support,” he stated.

According to him, during the support program from Ghana Tech Lab, the 25 businesses who have pitched will be well groomed for the world of work.

Mr. Anane however said that one of the challenges is Ghana Tech Lab will want to engage a lot more youth when there is more support so that they can reach out to a lot of youth in the country.

“There are people who are also willing but because of distance and how remote they are. So I think going forward we will be looking at how we will be able to house them within this long period. So that they can have full attention,” he added.

The National Incubation Program Lead reiterated that the eventual winners would receive financial support in terms of investment in their business and start up ideas.

After the long day pitching the sheanut startup, Mbamba Hadija won the incubation pitch. 1st Runner Up Presentation – Miss Racheal Kotey -Analyst, 2nd Runner – Mr. Solomon Owuraku Ashia – Telecom Engineer, CEO, GTHINK Group.
