The Deputy Minister for Transport and Member of Parliament, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, has reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to promoting women’s economic empowerment and strengthening international parliamentary cooperation following her participation in the 51st Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of La Francophonie (APF).

The session was held in Yaoundé, Cameroon, from July 7 to 12, 2026, and brought together parliamentarians from Francophone countries and regions to deliberate on issues of mutual interest, including governance, democracy, sustainable development, and gender equality.

As part of Ghana’s parliamentary delegation, Madam Affo-Toffey also participated in the meetings of the Network of Women Parliamentarians, where members discussed pressing challenges confronting women across member states.

The Network adopted resolutions aimed at promoting women’s entrepreneurship, expanding economic opportunities for women, and encouraging policies that support gender inclusion and financial empowerment.

Speaking after the meetings, Madam Affo-Toffey described the discussions as productive and emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts among member countries to improve the socio-economic conditions of women.

She reiterated her commitment to championing initiatives that create greater opportunities for women, particularly in entrepreneurship and economic development, while contributing to Ghana’s active role in international parliamentary diplomacy.

According to the Deputy Minister, empowering women through supportive policies and increased access to economic opportunities remains essential to achieving sustainable national development and inclusive growth.

The Parliamentary Assembly of La Francophonie serves as a platform for legislators from member states to exchange ideas, promote democratic governance, strengthen cooperation, and address common challenges affecting the Francophone community.
