Samira Bawumia urges Ghanaians to prioritize well-being to prevent future health crisis

The Second Lady, Samira Bawumia, is urging Ghanaians to prioritize their well-being to prevent future health crises.

“I also want to encourage the beneficiaries of this program to take full advantage of the services provided, and beyond that, to continue practicing healthy habits in their daily lives. Let us prioritize our health, as it is the most valuable asset we have.”

“By providing free health screenings, HIV testing, tuberculosis and diabetes screening, blood pressure checks, childhood immunizations, and even essential supplements like Vitamin A, we will help address immediate health needs and prevent future health crises.”

Speaking at the launch of the 2024 Ghana Rotary Family Health Days (RFHD), she called for collective efforts to promote healthier lifestyles and enhance public health awareness.

“Healthcare is a fundamental human right. Yet, some Ghanaians, especially those in underserved and rural areas, struggle to access it. The Rotary Family Health Days are helping to change this, ensuring that everyone, no matter where they are or what their circumstances, can get the healthcare they need.”

She highlighted that proactive measures are essential for safeguarding the nation’s health.

“This call is for all individuals, organizations, and the private sector to get involved in this initiative—whether by volunteering, offering resources or simply spreading the word to those who need these services. Each of us has a role to play in ensuring that every Ghanaian has access to quality healthcare.”

Rotary District 9104 has launched the 2024 Ghana Rotary Family Health Days (RFHD).

The event launch was graced by Second Lady Samira Bawumia, who is herself a Rotarian, along with the District Governor of Rotary District 9104, Florence Maame Hagan, District Governor-Elect Nana Yaa Siriboe, and a host of past and present executives of Rotary District 9104, as well as members from other Rotary clubs across the country.

The 2024 Rotary Family Health Days will take place from Thursday, September 19, 2024, to Saturday, September 21, 2024, and are expected to serve approximately 30,000 individuals in 30 communities across five regions: Greater Accra, Ashanti, Volta, Eastern, and Western. The program offers free health screenings, including tests for HIV, tuberculosis, and diabetes, as well as blood pressure checks and childhood immunizations.

Rotary members from 44 clubs will participate in the three-day event, working alongside medical staff and technicians from the Ghana Health Service.

This year’s launch was themed: “Healthy Families, Healthy Communities.”
